  • Food for Friends are nomintated for a Vegetarian Society Award

    The UK's leading Vegetarian Society have shortlisted Food for Friends for this years 'best vegetarian caterer'.

    The Vegetarian Society have shortlisted Food for Friends for the 'Best vegetarian caterer' award within this years 'approved' category. The nomination is a direct result of the public's votes so we are thrilled to have been shortlisted.

    We have been invited to an awards ceremony in October where we, and the other shortlisted restaurants will find out who the panel of expert, independent judges have chosen as this years winner.

  • Food for Friends supports local artist

    Local artist Jessica Coote is bringing her latest collection of artwork to Food for Friends. The stunning collection will be exhibited and avaialable to buy from Saturday 30th May.

    Drawing inspiration from the naturally breathtaking landscapes to be found on the Sussex downs, Jessica's work shows true craftmanship, originality and beauty. The new collection will be displayed throughout the restaurant and will be individually priced.

    "My aim is to evoke the variety and beauty of the natural world by using a multitude of fabrics, materials and techniques to achieve colour, texture and relief", says Jessica, "I am realy pleased to be exhibiting at Food for Friends, it's a beautiful restaurant with lots of soft natural light".

    Having studied Creative Embroidery at Brighton Technical College - a course organised by Goldsmiths, University of London, Jessica has had some of the best training in the country.

    Shortly after the birth of her daughter, Jessica settled in the small rural village of Rustrel in Provence, which was surrounded by breathtaking countryside and bathed in beautiful light. Inspired by this extraordinary landscape she began using her embroidery to capture its beauty.

    National Vegetarian Week runs from Monday 18th to Sunday 24th May, and this year we have teamed up with some local like-minded companies to offer you some fantastic prizes when you dine with us over National Vegetarian Week.The prizes on offer are listed below, simply click here to download your competiton entry form.

    The prizes

    • £100 worth of vouchers from Gossypium who have just opened a shop in Brighton Square. They offer a beautiful collection of organic, fair-trade cotton products including home-ware, kids clothing, yoga gear and men and women's clothing. A real haven for ethically minded, style conscious shoppers.
    • A hamper of goodies worth £50 from Infinity Foods, a thriving worker's co-operative dedicated to the provision of an extensive range of vegetarian foods since 1971. They have a wide selection of natural, organic vegetrarian and vegan products as well as a natural selection of bodycare.
    • A month's supply of medium veg boxes from We Love Local, a Sussex-based company operating from a small farm near Henfield who are passionate about local food, and supporting local farmers. You will win a weekly box of seasonal, locally grown vegetables, which will be delivered directly to your door once a week for four weeks. Typically a medium veg box will contain 8 different varities of vegetables weighing 2-3kg in total.   • Food for Friends at Foodies Festival in May

    Food for Friends head chef Kane McDowell has been invited to Brighton's first Foodies Festival this May for a cooking demonstration.

    Food for Friends new head chef Kane McDowell has been invited to hold a cooking demonstration with samples to try at Brighton's first Foodies Festival. The event runs over two days and Steven will be at the chef's theatre in Jubilee Square at 12noon on Saturday 16th May.

    Fod for Friends and other leading Brighton restaurants will be showcasing the many different styles of food on offer in our vibrant city.

    Ramin Mostowfi, owner of Food for Friends is looking forward to the event, "so many people ask us for recipes, it takes a little more thought to make food without meat favoursome so this event will allow us to share our extensive experience with the audience".
